Varicose veins is commonly observed in lower limbs making them engorged and twisted due to impaired venous drainage.
Medications:
- Tab. Daflon 500 (Micronised purified flavonoid fraction 450 mg and Hesperidine 50 mg) 1 tablet twice a day for upto 4 weeks. This will help improve the venous tone and symptoms of varicose veins.
General advice:
- Advice patients to use external compressions using elastic compression stockings.
- Elevation of the affected extremities at night.
- Promote weight loss and regular exercise.
- Avoid prolonged standing, sitting or straining.
Investigations:
Venous doppler of the lower limbs will show the incompetent valves and the degree of damage.
Referrals:
For patients with severe varicose veins or venous ulcers it will be advisable to refer them to surgical team for laser ablation.
