Stye is a small, painful lump on the eyelid usually caused by a staphylococcus bacteria eye infection of the eye lash follicle. It often leads to swelling and excessive watering. In severe cases it can lead to abscess.

Medications:

  • Tab. Augmentin 625 Duo (Amoxicillin 500 mg, Clavulanic acid 125 mg) one tablet twice a day for 5 days.
  • Cap. Flora-BC (Lactic acid bacillus, Pyridoxine, Niacinamide, Folic acid) one capsule twice a day for 5 days.
  • Eye drops Azithral (Azithromycin 0.1% w/v) 1 – 2 drops thrice a day for 7 days.
  • Tab. Ibugesic AP (Aceclofenac 100 mg, Paracetamol 325 mg) 1 tablet twice a day for 3 days

General advice:

  • Remove affected eyelash
  • Warm fomentation
  • Clean eyelids regularly
  • Advice protective eyeglasses
  • Advice correction of vision and refractive errors

Referral:

Consider referral to ophthalmologist if symptoms fail to subside or if patient presents with complications such as abscess or diplopia.
