Symptomatic treatments:

  • Syrup Benardryl (Diphenhydramine, Ammonium chloride, Sodium citrate) – 10 ml three times per day.
  • Tab. Xykaa Rapid (Paracetamol 650 mg) – one tablet every 4 times a day for 3 days.

Common clinical features associated with sore throat

Pharyngitis Cough, evidence of redness of uvula, pharynx or enlarged tonsils and  submandibular lymph nodes
Laryngitits Dry cough, hoarse voice and evidence of redness and swelling around vocal cords
Laryngotracheitis Breathlessness, cough, cold, stridor and fever
Sinusitis Painful sinuses, cough, cold, blocked nasal passage, frequent headaches or fever
Gastro-oesophageal reflux Burning sensation in chest, symptoms usually after meals, difficulty in lying flat, acidic taste in throat due to regurgitation
Measles Rhinitis, red eyes, small greyish-white spots on the buccal mucosa (Koplik spots) and blotchy maculopapular rash
Whooping cough Significant cough, bouts of cough leading to syncope, breathlessness and positive throat swab
Influenza (common flu) Fever, muscle ache and no evidence of other infective pathologies
Swine flu High fever, runny nose, sore throat, muscle pains, headache and tiredness and positive H1N1 swab test
