Hypoglycaemia Poor management of diabetes, sudden changes or non-compliance to anti-diabetic treatment
Prickly heat Itchy red rash on the skin on exposure to hot temperature and no signs of infections
Scabies Intense night-time itching, burrow tracks in web spaces of hands, feet, other skin folds with positive microscopy
Tinea (ring worm infestation) Localised symptoms with red scaly rash, blisters, thick and discoloured nails
Sinusitis Night-time cough and runny nose, painful sinuses, blocked nasal passage, frequent headaches or fever
Lice infestations Itching in scalp, pubis and evidence of lice organisms, irritability and excessive symptoms at night
Obesity Raised BMI, excessive snoring and evidence of  obstructive sleep apnoea
COPD Chronic daily cough, productive cough and abnormal pulmonary function test without reversibility
Cluster headaches History of unilateral headaches, painful eyes and no evidence of infection
Congestive cardiac failure Pedal oedema, irregular rhythm and 2 D echo evidence of reduced ejection fraction
Gastro-oesophageal reflux Burning sensation in chest, symptoms usually after meals, difficulty in lying flat, acidic taste due to regurgitation
Anxiety disorder Excessive fear, feeling of impending doom, tachycardia, palpitations often with mental health conditions
Insomnia Prolonged lack of sleep without any other identifiable physical pathologies

Note: Any generalised or significant illness can lead to sleep disturbance and hence a detailed history, examination and investigations is needed.
