Common clinical features associated with skin rash

Prickly heat Itchy red rash on the skin on exposure to hot temperature and no signs of infections
Psoriasis Localised redness of skin, dry and flaky skin with silvery scales
Scabies Intense night-time itching, burrow tracks in web spaces of hands, feet, other skin folds with positive microscopy
Tinea (ring worm infestation) Localised symptoms with red scaly rash, blisters, thick and discoloured nails
Superficial skin infection Swelling, redness, increased skin temperature and occasionally with evidence of systemic infection
Eczema Patchy dry skin, discolouration, localised swelling but no evidence of skin infection
Intertrigo Reddish skin rash, induced or aggravated by heat, moisture, maceration or friction in skin folds
Skin allergy (urticaria) Red discolouration of skin, skin elevation, blisters and history of contact to sensitive products
Bee sting or insect bites History of bites, localised pain, stinging, raised skin or evidence of infection
Chicken pox Fever, skin rash with or without blisters, headache and tiredness
Filariasis Dry cough associated with groin pain, leg swellings. This is more common in endemic areas
Measles Rhinitis, red eyes, small greyish-white spots on the buccal mucosa (Koplik spots) and blotchy maculopapular rash
Rheumatic fever Fever, skin rash, palpitations, swollen lymph nodes, cardiac murmur and positive throat swab for haemolytic streptococci
Leptospirosis High grade fever, muscle ache, jaundice, red eyes, history of close association with animals and birds or prolonged exposure to contaminated water
Lyme disease Fever, circular skin rash (erythema migrans), red eyes, arthralgia, fatigue, joint pains, history of tick bites
Shingles Unilateral rash on body, fever and skin sensitivity over affected site
Scorpion sting History of bite, localised pain, swelling and systemic toxicity
Chikungunya Fever, muscle pain, rash, joint swelling, joint pains and positive laboratory evidence
Dengue High grade fever with chills and positive smear test
