Intertrigo is an inflammatory condition of the skin folds characterized by reddish skin rash, induced or aggravated by heat, moisture, maceration or friction. Patients may develop superficial bacterial or fungal infections.
Medications:
For non-infected lesions:
- Candid Renew Calamine Talc (Clotrimazole 1%, Calamine, Zinc) – for local application.
For infected lesions:
- Lotion Lulifin 1% (Luliconazole 1% w/w) to be applied twice a day for 14 days.
- Candid Renew Calamine Talc (Clotrimazole 1%, Calamine, Zinc) – for local application 2 hours after application of Lulifin 1%.
- Tab. Odoxil 500 (Cefadroxil 500 mg) – 1 tablet twice a day for 10 days.
- Cap. Flora BC (Lactobacillus, Pyridoxine, Niacinamide, Folic acid) – 1 capsule twice a day for 10 days.
General advice:
- Keep the area clean and dry.
- Advice loose clothing to allow for skin ventilation.
- If left untreated intertrigo can spread to other parts of the body.
- Advice strict glycemic control for diabetic patients
- Advice weight loss if patient is overweight.
Referral:
Consider referring to dermatologist if patients fail to respond to above treatments or presents with additional complications.
