Blepharitis is inflammation of the eyelids causing redness, swelling and itching.

Medications:

  • Eye oint. Optithrocin (Azithromycin 1% w/w) thrice a day for 7 days.
  • For chronic cases – add cap. Microdox-LBS (Doxycycline 100 mg, Lactobacillus 5 billion spores) 1 capsule a day for 4 weeks.

In refractory cases –

  • Eye drops Milflox DF (Moxifloxacin 0.5% w/w, Difluprednate 0.05% w/w) one drop four times a day for 10 days.
  • Cap. Microdox-LBS (Doxycycline 100 mg, Lactobacillus 5 billion spores) 1 capsule a day for 4 weeks.

General care:

  • Apply warm compresses.
  • Wash the lids with baby shampoo on cotton swab.
  • Massage lids to express the gland discharge.

Investigations:

  • Eyelid margin culture- to check the microbiology

Referral:

Consider referral to ophthalmologist if patient fails to respond or presents with additional complications.
