Common clinical features associated with nasal congestion

Sinusitis Painful sinuses, blocked nasal passage, frequent headaches of fever
Otitis media Ear itch, fluid discharge, redness of tympanic membrane, feeling of pressure in the ear or hearing loss.
Pharyngitis Painful throat, evidence of redness of uvula, pharynx or enlarged tonsils. Patient may present with enlarged submandibular lymph nodes.
Rhinitis Runny nose, dry cough with no evidence of infection.
Mumps Swollen salivary glands, fever, difficulty in chewing or rarely painful testicles.

Eosinophilia Persistent cough, urticaria, breathlessness and laboratory confirmation of raised eosinophils
Skin allergy (urticaria) Red discolouration of skin, skin elevation, blisters and exposure to sensitive products
Eczema (atopic dermatitis) Patchy dry skin, discolouration, localised swelling but no evidence of skin infection
Nasal polyps Longstanding nasal blockage, postnasal drip, dry cough, loss of sense of smell and headache
Deviated nasal septum Unilateral nasal congestion, difficulty in breathing, recurrent sinus infections, snoring, nose bleeds
Foreign body Unilateral or bilateral nose blockage, pain, sensation of foreign object, purulent discharge
